Transcript

zuuuuu: On another exciting episode of the Animation Deliberation podcast, Season 7 of My Hero Academia is about halfway through. It is traumatizing us just as much as last year did. So I think this is a good point that we need to have someone to talk about because it's been too long. I can't keep these feelings to myself anymore. We're going to talk about that a much more right out of these ads. We have no control over.

Andrew Rogers: Sing along if you know the words. Because at this point, I'm not sure if I do. One, two, three, it's time for animation shun deliberation. A conversation and a celebration of our favorite action animated series. Yeah.

zuuuuu: Yeah, welcome back to another episode of Animation Deliberation, the podcast where we take action animation and cartoon seriously, but not too seriously. We're your hosts. I'm Zuhar Ali.

Andrew Rogers: And I am Andrew Rogers.

zuuuuu: Welcome back.

Andrew Rogers: Welcome back.

zuuuuu: How I've missed this. I haven't talked to you in like four months and then it's just like, hi, I want a podcast.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah. Yeah, that's pretty much how it went. we We would go back and forth for like a day here and there on random Instagram posts and conversations. And then yeah, it was just like, what if we what if we did a podcast? What would that be like?

zuuuuu: Yeah, except for when we visit, like these podcasts are when we talk, so it's like, we we had to we had to get that going again.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, yes.

zuuuuu: And as I mentioned at the top, this show has been traumatizing. You had your thoughts that you started teasing with me before we hit record, but we're gonna we're gonna save it for the people.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, yes.

zuuuuu: this is This is one of those shows where a majority of the people that I know that are watching it have read the manga, and they're just,

Andrew Rogers: Hmm.

zuuuuu: bitter so I just don't talk to them because I love the series and it has me on the edge of my seat every week and I genuinely care about these characters and where it's going and this and that. The one thing I'll say without getting too into it is like I'm not a big fan of OP villains and that just kind of seems to be the case right now we'll get into it but overall would have been your thoughts on episodes 1 through 12 of season 7 of My Hero Academia.

Andrew Rogers: It's been really interesting. It's no secret that you and I are both super fans of the show. But the thoughts that I kind of teased you before this is I don't really blame the people that for lack of a better word like fell off a season or two ago it's been super exciting to me who is super invested but if you were just like a casual watcher I feel like this season should have been like the big we're coming off the war there's so much going on we know more about everyone's powers like this is the big thing and it took like

zuuuuu: Okay.

Andrew Rogers: six, seven episodes of the 12 that we've had to really put the chess pieces in place and to start to see a lot of the cool things like, I won't discount there has been some of the coolest stuff that we've seen in the show so far. And I think those episodes are great.

Andrew Rogers: But there was a lot of up and down like, I have a lot of gripes with the entire star and stripe stuff like I loved it but I want more is really the biggest gripe that I would give in all of that. But it's really, it's in a weird place pacing wise like I think if this was season two or season three.

Andrew Rogers: A lot of people would not have held on as long as they did, but I think like the pacing has just been much more of a roller coaster now, whereas I think they used to be really just keep going, keep doing the thing, keep having fun.

zuuuuu: Interesting.

Andrew Rogers: So I love it, but I have heard, I think a lot of the complaints I've heard from people are valid this season.

zuuuuu: I think we might be opposite on that front then.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, interesting.

zuuuuu: Alright so we'll just we'll get into spoiler talk because while we have no notes on this and I just kind of have a Wikipedia page up as reference like we're literally here just two dudes just chatting about anime.

Andrew Rogers: ignore my typing well i

zuuuuu: I did have a thought on like how I wanted to compartmentalize it because there we did start with the Stars and Stripes, as you said, and then when the war started, it broke off into different battlefields.

zuuuuu: So I kind of wanted to like separate it by that. And because we mentioned Stars and Stripes, I will say

Andrew Rogers: Ignore

zuuuuu: So last last season, I feel like, was the one where it's like people would buy back in because it's, do we get to Shigaraki before he hatches from his little cocoon?

Andrew Rogers: my typing while I...

zuuuuu: OK, he's out. How do we deal with him? We have characters dying. We have characters losing limbs and eyes and body parts. And, you know, we have teachers that died. And then we have Deku going on like his vigilante arc and I felt like all that stuff was so intense like that was the time to get back into it and then we have this cliffhanger of this American hero standing on a jet on his way to on her way to help Japan and then we get it right away like we thought there was going to be like her landing and catching up with all mine and how do I help and where do I fit in but blah blah blah nah she didn't even make it over the Pacific

zuuuuu: We just went straight into the fight, two episodes later, she's dead. but So I will say that the height, that the build up that we had for her, that what happened was just like, oh, we're done with that already.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, yeah.

zuuuuu: Okay.

Andrew Rogers: And I think that's why I wanted so much more is it felt like this was going to be like, we were going to get the season of all the people coming from the other countries and they were going to help and star and stripe was going to show us why like, she's the best hero in the country that made heroes like, that's what I was looking forward to. And then it fell off. And then I thought they did a really cool thing with like, Oh, her sacrifice was gonna be worth it. And I, I'm gonna say it hasn't been worth it so far. And it really, really bugs me. Because I think it felt like they were going to answer your problem. And I'm jumping all over the place. I i definitely want to talk about how cool the star and stripe is. But I feel like this is in line of the conversation. You talked about how Shigaraki is overpowered, and we don't like that.

Andrew Rogers: I agree. And it felt like they were like, oh, her power is going to take away a bunch of his quirks. He's not going to be overpowered anymore. He's going to have like five have quirks left. And then he has still been overpowered despite the sacrifice that she made.

Andrew Rogers: Like I thought.

zuuuuu: And this is all the shit that he can do without having like with his quirks being nullified.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, this is this is him at less power.

zuuuuu: It's like, I'm sorry, you can just naturally grow like thousands of hands out of your body.

Andrew Rogers: What would it have been like?

Andrew Rogers: Oh, the hands, the hands.

zuuuuu: That makes sense. That's not the quirk.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah. Yeah, no, it's it's a lot, but... All in all, it was so cool to get to see Star and Stripe. like If there's any one thing that I always need to give this mangaka credit for, it's coming up with creative powers.

zuuuuu: Mmhmm.

Andrew Rogers: like So often we look at you know the Marvels, the DC, the big wigs of superheroes. Superman is Hyperion in Marvel. Spider -Man is Black Spider. Iron Man is Batman.

Andrew Rogers: like they're They all have very similar power sets across the board. There's almost been none of these powers that the My Hero creator has come up with that have shown up in any other media. Star and Stripe especially with these like nitpicky rules and validations and way that they're coming out to fight and that they can just use jets as a part of their powers like threshold. Amazing. So cool.

zuuuuu: U .S .A. U .S .A.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, it it it was a real USA moment like it and it's funny to always be reminded like this is the way that Japan views the US is these like super prideful of ourselves people that are going to be all powerful and show up with the military.

zuuuuu: U .S .A.

Andrew Rogers: But then we see it. We're like, but it's kind of cool. It might not like, I guess it's kind of right.

zuuuuu: Man, if only our technology actually was that cool.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: There were so many times I was like, wow, that jet spun out how many times and it's just like hovering now. That's pretty neat.

Andrew Rogers: Well, jets don't hover like that, but we'll just let that we'll just let that slide the way they just stopped.

zuuuuu: No. Helicopters don't hover like that.

Andrew Rogers: It was just so funny. It's like, oh, Shigaraki's there. Let me put the brakes on real quick. No, that's not what jets do. Like, yes, I know a Harrier could do that, but they have downward propulsion to hover.

Andrew Rogers: That's not but's not what jets do. oh

zuuuuu: I am going to interrupt this conversation because I did want to say this at the top and I totally forgot My Hero Academia Your Next is the next movie that's coming out this year. The trailer is dropped. It looks really fun. October 11th is when it is releasing in the United States for those who did not know that.

Andrew Rogers: That is very good information to have, actually. I remember there was a movie coming out, but I couldn't remember what it is, because at this point we've had almost an anime movie a quarter this year, so me and my friends have jokingly referred to it as our quarterly meeting, where we go get food, watch an anime movie, because we had Demon Slayer at the start of the year, then we had Spy Family.

zuuuuu: and Mhm.

Andrew Rogers: I know my hero comes out, and I don't know what we're gonna do in the last quarter of the year, but regardless for now,

zuuuuu: Mhm.

zuuuuu: I'm sure Miyazaki might just wake up out of a nap and come up with something.

Andrew Rogers: we

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, you get to smoke two more cigarettes and then just come up with the best story that you've ever heard. No.

zuuuuu: Did we ever talk code white?

Andrew Rogers: I don't I know we talked about you saw code white before I did you saw it like three hours before and you were like, it's super funny.

zuuuuu: Did I know you saw code white?

Andrew Rogers: And then I went and saw it. And I think I texted you back and was like, Yeah, you're right. This was super funny. We never recorded on it.

zuuuuu: We never recorded on that, whoops.

Andrew Rogers: You see, we've already gotten on a tangent. You could tell that we're out of the the recording practice. We were here talking about My Hero, now we're talking about Miyazaki and Spy Family.

zuuuuu: I'm down to watch it again and record it because I've never had my stomach hurt so hard from laughing so hard at a freaking movie.

Andrew Rogers: Nothing could have prepared me for some of the things that happened in that movie. Nothing.

zuuuuu: I'm very much down to watch that again and record on it, like maybe next month or something.

zuuuuu: But back to Stars and Stripes, she didn't last long, but good God did.

Andrew Rogers: Yes, My Hero Academia.

zuuuuu: that all of her scenes just look freaking incredible. The trident being thrust into the ocean, her decaying and being a skull and just taunting Shigaraki in his head, like ripping the quirks into pieces, like tearing them in half.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, yes.

zuuuuu: And like, actually, it was so brutal. I was so disappointed that she died that quick. But damn, did she go out with the man.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, no, she left her impact. And I think there's a reason that like, at every convention, anyone who is any woman who is taller than like, five, six is just gonna be star and stripe, because she has become a fan favorite, despite being in a show that has 150 episodes, she is in two of them.

Andrew Rogers: Like, that's kind of nutty, that she could be that important.

zuuuuu: Two and a half.

Andrew Rogers: What was that? yeah

zuuuuu: Two and a half, Cliff Anger, at the end of last season.

Andrew Rogers: but we didn't even know who it was i was just confused but yeah yeah no it was it was really cool and it was amazing to see like

zuuuuu: Yeah. like Who's American All Might here?

Andrew Rogers: such a powerhouse character that was gonna go toe -to -toe with Shigaraki, and just her not even getting to talk to Deku really, well, I think was the the hardest part of getting through it all, that like we didn't get to see that amazing interaction of like, wait, you trained with All Might?

Andrew Rogers: This is where All Might gets his colors from? This is how he knows the US? I wanted to see that nerd out moment, see a little bit of like our fun, lovable Deku back instead of the trauma boy that we have now.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

zuuuuu: The broogie boy. yeah Yeah, Endeavor and Hawks never got to interact with her.

Andrew Rogers: and Broody boy.

zuuuuu: They were just like watching from the sideline. I kind of wanted more out of All Might's reaction when he got the news.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: cause He was just kind of like oh, yeah, she was great that sucked, but uh what until he got off those jets It's like

Andrew Rogers: and And I think that's part of my my gripe with this season is it's a lot of good individual parts, but it doesn't feel like they link up. like There hasn't been a lasting impression from Star and Stripes Sacrifice. There hasn't been lasting consequence. No one really like batted an eye to that happening. Whereas one of the big things we gave about this show so early on is every character is interacting with each other. Every character has ramifications. like All Might stepping down and putting Endeavor in the number one spot just had this ripple effect in the community and you would think they would use Star and Stripe to be similar and I feel like it's not it's not hitting like it used to.

zuuuuu: Yeah, cuz it's like oh her sacrifice got her this Intel here says weakness we can do this we could do that it's just like oh If that led to the strategy of splitting them up, okay, maybe that would have helped a little bit, but it's because we we go back to OP villains and Shigaraki being as tough as he is, and it's like, oh cool, I guess none of that really mattered then.

zuuuuu: I guess I gave them a timeline, if anything?

Andrew Rogers: yeah yeah like they knew they had the seven days or whatever it ended up being or two weeks i can't can't exactly remember but you know what i'm talking about

zuuuuu: Yeah.

zuuuuu: Did you have anything on her before the the next part? Anything else on Stars and Stripes?

Andrew Rogers: Is she in the movie? Because there's a movie that takes place in like the nebulous period between like seasons two and three or something, right? Where like All Might and Deku go to the U .S. or something? Am I making this up?

zuuuuu: No, so the first movie was where he meets his sidekick again.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, right. it's this But the sidekicks in the U .S., right?

zuuuuu: from the U .S.

Andrew Rogers: Are from the U .S.

zuuuuu: From the U .S., but they met on this island where it's like it's like the go to spot for like innovation for like tech innovation. And like Deku was All Might's guest.

Andrew Rogers: got

zuuuuu: And the raps that he has around his hand to make him like be more to actually be able to punch at 100 percent.

Andrew Rogers: Gotcha.

zuuuuu: His sidekick's daughter made that for Deku, but they conveniently broke at the end of the movie because of the villain.

Andrew Rogers: m that

Andrew Rogers: Right. And then he had to get them made.

zuuuuu: But when they when they brought it back into this season that was like something they pulled from the movie back into the show.

Andrew Rogers: Right. Right. And then it was made by the girl with the crosshair eyes that I. We're going to be bad at names here, ladies and gentlemen, there's so many characters and I'm bad at names as it is.

zuuuuu: um'm I'm loving her story right now just like

Andrew Rogers: That.

zuuuuu: It's like that one point where it was like everyone thought she was being rude because she didn't work on the suits but it's like then they pinpointed like what and we talked about like how creative they get with these quirks like that was a whole

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: thing I loved about the the coffin in the sky is we have these characters that were introduced to us in season 1 and they're showing how like their powers are relevant to the construction of how they did this so quick.

zuuuuu: The financial part of it still makes no sense to me, I don't get how a principal weasel makes that much, but for them to be able to produce and innovate and put things together the way that they did, that was really cool and fun and creative to see.

Andrew Rogers: That's why they have the business students.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, no, that whole tease of her like working with her second hand on the computer like, I'm too busy to do this thing. And you see the weird stuff moving around and you don't know what it is until it's two episodes later, where they show that that's all the moving pieces of the coffin in the sky like,

zuuuuu: Mm

Andrew Rogers: that that in and of itself, we all know I'm a science engineering nerd that hasn't changed. I was amazed at how how they have so everything so perfectly thought out with cementos making all the bricks and you have all the electric boys powering the whole system in the sky.

Andrew Rogers: And Momo just pumping out parts while sugar rush makes a cake. No sugar rushes and they're making cake. That regardless was was he making the cake?

zuuuuu: No, cha crush I think Sherpa's actually cooking the food for her to eat because she has to she has she has to bring a bunch of calories.

Andrew Rogers: Okay.

Andrew Rogers: yeah Yeah, so there's that was a perfect example of it all coming back together in this season.

zuuuuu: And then the business class coming out of nowhere, like recording everything.

Andrew Rogers: Recording. Who is going to tell your story when all of this is over? No, no, get out of here.

zuuuuu: This is such a funny way to start the episode.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, I was so confused. I was like, what are we doing? What's what's happening here?

zuuuuu: Alright, next thing I got for ya, how did you feel about Aoyama's Betrayal?

Andrew Rogers: i yeah no i knew i knew who you were talking about I found it interesting.

zuuuuu: Naval laser.

Andrew Rogers: it was It was weird because I completely forgot we had this like mole through line from like two or three seasons ago where they were like, someone's giving away our secrets.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: and it's It's a perfect use of the characters because I remember back in the like dark Deku episode, and they panned to everyone's character saying, like, Deku, I'm sorry.

Andrew Rogers: like Come back. Please, we care.

zuuuuu: He's the only one that didn't say anything.

Andrew Rogers: They panned to him. And i just I remember laughing when he didn't say anything because I'm like, of course, this little nerd can't come up with something to say. like he's He's a little weakling.

Andrew Rogers: And I just played it off like I didn't think anything of it. So them cutting back to that and then him not being in the group photo is again like he's almost as invisible as Invisible Girl to all of the viewers like I think it was cool.

Andrew Rogers: But it was weird like it was a it all it was like a big red herring with he's not actually betraying like I thought there was gonna be more to him like having some villain arc and all these other things.

Andrew Rogers: But yeah, it was

zuuuuu: but it was like because of his parents and he was actually quirkless and they did it to give him some ability and totally fucked everyone over in the process but it's like that whole first attack happened because of him like before we knew what all this all these people were capable of like he was the cause of these kids having on their first quarter of school

Andrew Rogers: yeah yeah why didn't you yeah why didn't you give up the goat like the second time yeah there's been like five major attacks because of you after like the third one you could have said something my guy like that that might have been when you were could have yeah yeah no there's uh

zuuuuu: Bakugo got kidnapped cause of you, all might lost his powers cause of you, like, huh.

zuuuuu: Seeing canvis bur girl invisible girls face for the first time was kinda cool.

Andrew Rogers: Aizawa lost his leg.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, that was that was me. I when they started the episode, I'm being like, there's a traitor. And it was her behind the tree. I was like, Whoa, hang on. Has she just been like taking the gloves off and sneaking away invisibly to go like help the villains? That that was what I thought was happening. But it was an interesting turn nonetheless.

zuuuuu: It's also really cool in the opener, like during the song, like for a split second, like the light kind of passes over and like you see her face.

Andrew Rogers: yes yeah no there there was a really neat thing i just didn't like that it was in the opener in the first episode because it was like two or three episodes in that we got her face and i was like well i know it's coming we we already saw that this is gonna happen so it was the same thing as the spoiler spoilers for demon slayer swordsmith village arc yeah when uh nazuko's uh

zuuuuu: Have you noticed that in the opener?

zuuuuu: Sure. I think... Oh yeah, it's like, ooh, what is this still gonna mean?

zuuuuu: bamboo mouth guard thingy.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, the the bamboo mouth guard is on the ground gag was on the ground.

zuuuuu: That's the word.

Andrew Rogers: We're like, oh, well, we know that something is going to happen with Nezuko. She's going to get rid of it.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: but Like something is here. I didn't love having that as information to go off of. And it's funny, like. Monica and I almost don't watch intros anymore after that Demon Slayer one because we're like, we don't want things to be given away.

zuuuuu: yeah

Andrew Rogers: Like as much as I love listening to the intro songs, I feel like a lot of things have not been as good as they could be in terms of like not giving it away.

zuuuuu: That's fair.

Andrew Rogers: But then there's other

zuuuuu: Yeah, I think the reason it didn't bother me was because, like, I knew that there was actually a manga, like, variant cover of, like, how she looks just in general.

Andrew Rogers: Are you talking about...

zuuuuu: So because I knew that was a thing when I saw...

Andrew Rogers: Is this Nezuko or Invisible Girl?

zuuuuu: Invisible Girl.

Andrew Rogers: Well, that covers weird. I know a cover you're talking about. 18 +, look that one up on your own time.

zuuuuu: Yeah, I don't think I saw it till, like, way later, but because I knew it, I was just like, oh, cool, we could just get to see her at some point.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, and and that's the thing. like i I knew it would probably happen, but there's something different about like it happens when you're not expecting it versus...

Andrew Rogers: like like there's so many examples of it in fiction where it's like okay this character is probably gonna die like i or not show up again like rogue one is a great example of characters probably aren't gonna show up but when the death actually happens you're like whoa i didn't see it coming in this way in this fashion that is always always kind of nice to have

zuuuuu: Mhm.

Andrew Rogers: But i'm I'm nitpicking.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: It was very cool to get to see her and the emotion behind her and the way that they all... the The relationships between the characters are still something that this show does very, very well.

zuuuuu: yeah

Andrew Rogers: Like how distraught they all were when they found out that Navel Laser was... the mole was so heartbreaking and seeing them like crying on each other's shoulders and like looking around like how could you do this and his response back and all the crying that he did I think it was tremendously well acted and directed in terms of the animation and emotion that was brought.

zuuuuu: and

zuuuuu: Yeah, I think the biggest thing that the show will always have going forward is its delivery The way it goes to the lines the way it incorporates the music the way it displays emotions It could be the most Cliche saw this coming a mile away story that you've ever seen but because of the emotion that they put into it It's just kind of like I still feel something

Andrew Rogers: For sure.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, yeah. Oh.

zuuuuu: Alright, so his betrayal and then double agency is what leads to the war finally starting. I thought there was going to be a little match up between deco deco Deku and all for one before everybody got split off.

Andrew Rogers: Deco.

zuuuuu: but the way that everything was paired off was actually pretty cool. I also panicked a little bit when Deku went to the wrong spot, but of course, like, convenient is gonna happen.

Andrew Rogers: Yes.

Andrew Rogers: Mmm.

zuuuuu: So I'm gonna start with what I think is the storyline I care at least about, and that's Toga and Uraraka.

Andrew Rogers: i wish that wasn't the you know I wish that wasn't the answer.

zuuuuu: We haven't even touched it in like four or five episodes now, it's just... I'm not ready for them to come back to it, and when they do, it better be good.

Andrew Rogers: No, because i when you said the one we care least about, I'm like, this is my answer and you gave the same one. And I want to care. I do because they're both individually great characters but since they've been having this like standoff of like you can love yourself but not me and her trying to like uraka trying to bring out more of toga but toga resisting like it hasn't hasn't done as much as I think their individual stories still do.

Andrew Rogers: like Finding out Toga's backstory in that one episode? Amazing.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: Finding out you know how Uraraka regards her family and her parents, all of that is great, but the the clash against each other just hasn't done it in like a big emotional way.

zuuuuu: yeah

Andrew Rogers: And I agree. I want it to come back and I want it to have a lot going for it because I think there is potential, but I don't know. there's

zuuuuu: Because Uraraka's Heart to Heart with Deku was really nice. like I enjoyed that that dialogue between them and the similarities on their perspectives the thing and I like how they haven't like forced a relationship between them.

Andrew Rogers: Oh yeah.

zuuuuu: and like There's like little seeds here and there, but they're still like friends with like a greater task at hand.

Andrew Rogers: I think it's the same with a lot of the characters that like, there are very clear emotional ties, very clear, like characters that you can ship or think are going to end up together, however it is, but they know that this is a war and they know they have bigger priorities than that.

zuuuuu: Mm -hmm Yeah Yeah, I'm not I'm not gonna hop over to this storyline Yeah, but even sugar rocky said it's like you heroes are so desperate that you even had to put kids in the front line so to see what Asui and

Andrew Rogers: And I think that's, that's very refreshing to see. There's a lot of things that don't usually do that. And they want you to have like the young adult romance story and they're like, no, this is how it would really go.

Andrew Rogers: They would be focused on the life and death situation before though.

Andrew Rogers: yeah

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: I said her name like four times. Uraraka have to deal with right now. We haven't, touch they haven't seen it too much in the show, but the protecting Gigantamakia.

zuuuuu: and seeing the tail dude and Kirishima and what they've been up to, they're freaking exhausted.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, I'm sure.

zuuuuu: And they're still just powering through like as much as they can.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, there's so many other facets.

zuuuuu: So I'm like curious what's going on that front, but I don't want them to spend like too much time on it. like Just give me a little a little like five, 10 minute update.

Andrew Rogers: Well, because there's that one episode named extras wherein it is just like all of the side characters.

zuuuuu: When is it gonna be relevant?

Andrew Rogers: And again, it's a weird part of the pacing of the season because that episode comes after the big fight with the Todoroki's.

Andrew Rogers: so they go from like big we care about these characters to we're going to talk about the side characters and again i love their relationships this is not the time that i want to spend on these characters what's going on with shigaraki like yeah deku got pulled through the wrong portal i think it's three episodes later that we find out where he is what is going on like the they're so disjointed in how it's being told that it's yeah it's It's not the time and place like I want to know what's going to happen but it's not, it's not right now just give me an episode where you show.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: Here's how it happened like at the start, I think it was the start of the first war. They did it so well with like, when. Fat Gum and I think it was Fat Gum and Denki went and raided the compound and he showed how good he was with his electricity and then that's where Twice came in and then Hawks had to murder him.

Andrew Rogers: like All that happened in one sitting and then we went to the other parts of the war after that. Whereas that would be like, okay, we're in the middle of Shigaraki waking up, let's count over and see what Denki's doing.

Andrew Rogers: like it is yeah It would be like that.

zuuuuu: Yeah. That's fair. And you saying that made me check. So we are on episode 12 of the time of this recording and there's 21 episodes set for this season.

Andrew Rogers: Yes, this is a shorter than normal season, but only by like four or five episodes.

zuuuuu: Yeah, so. Alright, now I have more to go. A lot of storytelling, so I'm curious if... ...Jingan Tamaki is going to be a factor... ...again, but for now, that's...

Andrew Rogers: I hope not. I really hope not.

zuuuuu: ...that's gonna be tough.

Andrew Rogers: We've got enough to deal with.

zuuuuu: Uh, so then... Yeah, I think there's only two left. Todoroki's and Coffin in the Sky, hm?

Andrew Rogers: There's three left. I mean, the Todoroki's coughing in the sky and you cannot forget about Hawk's endeavor, all for one.

zuuuuu: door okay let's do let's do Todoroki first then yeah Todoroki is love the dialogue I love the the intent that Shoto

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, I'm like, hang on. We'll go chronologically from here. We'll do Todoroki's, we'll do all for one, and then we'll do confident in the sky.

zuuuuu: has of like I do want to get to know him like I want to be his brother Not to skip over to the other one, but I love how much all for one is getting in Endeavor's head of like, oh, like, look, you have to, like, everything that you've fucked up, you're having them deal with your problems.

zuuuuu: Like, you can't even be mad enough to do it yourself. And he lost a chunk of his side because of it. It was, it's just, oh, there's so much for those two brothers, like,

Andrew Rogers: Oh.

zuuuuu: I was shocked with that unveiling last season. I don't know, a lot of people saw it coming, but I was so locked in that it was just like, oh yeah, the two fire users, duh.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: Once I've really scarred, duh.

Andrew Rogers: I think if they didn't hit me with like how many times they showed the shrine of him to be like, Hey, don't forget, he's dead. I was like, he's not dead. There's, there's no way you're Trump.

zuuuuu: Yeah. Trauma.

Andrew Rogers: The fight was incredible though.

zuuuuu: i thought I thought that they were done with that one though. Like, it gave everyone the morale boost, it was that huge icicle, Shoto had his new power, and then Dabi's just like, kidding, I have a new power now too!

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: It's like, oh no, we're not done with this one! done with this one! Why am I not done with this one?

Andrew Rogers: now yeah

Andrew Rogers: As much as I want to be done with it, that fight was so great in terms of like just getting the overall scale of how big and powerful their powers were and having all of like Endeavor sidekicks come in and try and defend Shoto, but Shoto being like, no, I need to do this. my like don't Don't get in the way, please. like I need to protect you. You have, gosh, I can't remember the class president's name, the fast legs.

Andrew Rogers: He's just like, they're trying to even keep up and it's just like, it's too hot, I can't handle it. And knowing like getting that big revelation, that Shoto was the only one that could do this, like endeavor had other priorities and ever couldn't handle that he had to be Shoto, it had to be the one, like their their powers compliment each other too perfectly well.

zuuuuu: Mm hmm.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, it's just, it was so so well put together the phone call between Shoto and

zuuuuu: Either.

Andrew Rogers: yes, thank you. The phone call between Shoto and Endeavor before the fight being like, dad, let me do this. Like, I'm not doing this because of you. I'm doing this because of him. Like, I want to get my brother back. I want to make sure that the family is in a place like as much as it is this weird, like,

zuuuuu: yeah

Andrew Rogers: That's not going to happen. It still comes from such a place of you understand that you get a person wanting to keep their family together, no matter what the cost, it doesn't need to make sense. It just, it's what they want to happen.

Andrew Rogers: and I think that's great.

zuuuuu: He wants to have that Deku effect that affected him.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah. Cause we had that flashback.

zuuuuu: That that inspiration that All Might has passed on to other people to be able to spread on to other people, like he wants to be a part of that chain effect.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: And he's had it towards Endeavor, so it's almost kind of testing his luck bringing it towards Dabi, but yeah, i don't I don't know what the end's gonna be for her. I don't think it's gonna be a happy ending for those two.

Andrew Rogers: No, I don't.

zuuuuu: Especially with Dobby going like full psycho right now, which I did not think could like go any higher than what we had before. Like, how else do you like recoup this without him going down? Like you thought he was tied up and neutralized and this and that. He's like, just kidding.

Andrew Rogers: well And that's the big thing. I mean, I was gonna say spoilers, but we're talking about the season as a whole. This season is Game of Thrones level of nobody's safe.

Andrew Rogers: Like everybody's getting maimed, characters are on the table for death.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: I don't know if Shoto's necessarily on the chopping block, but I think there's a lot of those other characters that are there. that might drive Shoto to the point of like, look, I i have to take down Dobby or Dobby is going to take down me. Like, I think that's very much in the cards because, yeah, nobody, geez, nobody's safe. I'm looking at like there's the the thumbnails for each episode. And there is. Wow, names are alluding me, music girl.

Andrew Rogers: with the microphone.

zuuuuu: zero?

Andrew Rogers: Jiro, thank you. Yes, it is Jiro. Yeah, Jiro is just like one of the thumbnails and I'm talking about all these characters that have had problems and I'm just looking at her like, oh no. Yeah, nobody nobody's safe at this point, but I'm kind of glad it's coming back because it feels like one episode wasn't enough.

Andrew Rogers: As much as I've talked about splitting the fight being too much, one episode is not enough to fix their family problems that they have had for four seasons.

zuuuuu: Yeah, I thought and was hoping that it was... Shouto neutralized him. They put like, like the X -Men inhibitor collar on.

zuuuuu: And then they were going to have like dialogue later on, like with him being in prison. I didn't think...

Andrew Rogers: Do we have, like, inhibitor colors? Is that a thing?

zuuuuu: I don't know.

Andrew Rogers: I don't know either.

zuuuuu: They had to have been the prison, right?

Andrew Rogers: Well, cause Kirogi, I mean, clearly we have something to keep him in check.

zuuuuu: yeah the prisoners hmm

Andrew Rogers: And there was something keeping all for one. And the prisoner, yes. there Maybe we just don't have a portable version. Maybe it's just like someone's quirk is running the prison.

Andrew Rogers: I don't know.

zuuuuu: yeah i don't i don't i don't know how much more i have to add to that storyline except for i'm just scared and feel hopeless Because that was the big morale boost. Like, yo, we actually have a chance.

Andrew Rogers: We have a chance.

zuuuuu: Todoroki took down his brother. We're good. Let's keep doing this. It's like, oh, no, just kidding. Fuck everybody.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, well, I mean, yeah, you talk about one morale boost to the next.

Andrew Rogers: We'll jump to the next fight, which is all for one hawks endeavor zero.

zuuuuu: Oh.

zuuuuu: The emotional warfare that this guy delivers.

Andrew Rogers: is just but not even the emotional warfare the physical warfare as well like it it has been so well choreographed i remember when hawks debuted and they were like this is the number two hero i was like what's what's this guy's deal like what's really going on he can fly that's cool and seeing him back in action like this with the swords and the individual control of all the feathers like hawks might be one of the coolest characters in this show

zuuuuu: I mean, yeah

zuuuuu: yeah.

zuuuuu: Better swords.

zuuuuu: Oh yeah, absolutely.

Andrew Rogers: And it's just getting to see him go full glory. like I was in Little Tokyo a couple weeks ago with Monica, and we very much don't love to have like anime figures in the house or anything like that.

Andrew Rogers: like We want to keep a somewhat nice aesthetic. We almost bought a hawk statue because she's like, oh, it looks so cool, though.

zuuuuu: a

Andrew Rogers: like that would be That would look so good on the shelf. I'm like, yeah, it would. Yeah, it would. We did not end up buying it, but I'm still tempted to go back and get it almost every day.

zuuuuu: wedding gift ideas.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, there you go. There you go, but yeah, it, Hawks has been amazing. and And then just like seeing all of the students try and do what they can to help, but just how we're being reminded how powerful all for one is.

Andrew Rogers: And only being held back by like his mental state and state of like all the quirks fighting back for the first time. Like that was super cool.

zuuuuu: In this physical state, like he they made it very clear that he needs to have this helmet thing on.

Andrew Rogers: Mm -hmm.

zuuuuu: It's like his ventilator. and

Andrew Rogers: It's just Darth Vader rules.

zuuuuu: but he it's his it's his target It's everyone's target because he can't live without it. even when and That was some of the intel that they referred back to also. though when he got When he was escaping from the prison, like he had to bring the whole kit with him.

Andrew Rogers: yes yes that's true but yeah it was it was crazy but i think of all the characters that have shown me how cool they are of all of the fights that have shown me how cool this show can be and reeled me fully back in has got to be, I don't know which episode it is, Endeavor waking back up after getting his side like gushed out, losing an arm and not given a flying hoot as to what happens and getting the fire fist.

zuuuuu: Oh my god, the fire hand that he made, like the giant fire fist, I was like, yo!

Andrew Rogers: Yo, it's Fugellian up in here.

zuuuuu: That's much cooler than your fire mustache.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, no, the fire fist was just like, wait, he could do that this whole time and then doing the hug. I thought he was going to hit him with like an RKO out of nowhere from the sky.

Andrew Rogers: Like it was just the the bright burn.

zuuuuu: No, I figured he was just going to freaking me explode at that point.

Andrew Rogers: I thought he was sacrificing himself. I thought he was going to go like full nuclear.

zuuuuu: Yeah Literally

Andrew Rogers: which I'm kind of glad that we get more because it would have would have almost felt like a cop -out of like, I don't matter in the world, I'm gonna do this. It's like they're trying to redeem him kind of thing. But either way, that was hands down one of the coolest things that the show and the season ha ha. Yeah, the show and the season has done. But again, it was such a moral hit. You talked about having these wins. I was like, cheering like, oh my god, this season's great. And then all for one being like, what, you're the only one that thinks you have an ace in the hole. It's like, no, no, yes, we did think we were the only ones with an ace in the hole. Don't don't do this to us.

zuuuuu: Yeah, I screamed when, uh, I saw blood on Giro. I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. no do that That is one of the people I like. Don't you dare fucking kill her off. I will so eat that this happens right now.

Andrew Rogers: Well, I'm really trying to think, because I remember, I mean, just on the conversation of blood, when Hawks killed twice was one of like the first major times that we saw blood in the show. But outside of a lot of Deku's self -inflicted injuries, have any of the students really been hurt so far?

Andrew Rogers: I know I'm putting you on the spot with this, but I just suddenly had this.

zuuuuu: The closest thing that I could think of it wasn't the student but what happened to eat his brother with the hero kill stain That was really tough Yeah, I think everything else was just It's pretty PG injuries

Andrew Rogers: mmm yes yep eat his brother with stain like yeah even last season a lot of them got beat up but they weren't like getting taken down whereas he

zuuuuu: I mean, that was when Mirko lost a couple limbs.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, I mean, Mirko lost the leg, Aizawa got shot and cut his leg off. Like, Lamillion lost his powers, but he wasn't really, like, injured. That's what I was saying, like, we let...

zuuuuu: Oh, he watched a Night I Die. He got fully impaled.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, like, we've seen people be hurt.

zuuuuu: but None of our main students, no.

Andrew Rogers: but Yeah, none of our students, and I think we're seeing we we'll get more to it, but like we're seeing the effects having on everyone, including Aizawa, or especially Aizawa, but yeah, Jiro and the Blood was the first like, this can't be happening moment that we've had so far this season.

zuuuuu: but her actually like stunning all for one for a second it was like you go girl that was awesome tokyo

Andrew Rogers: Yes, yes. Yeah, just like, yeah, Tokoyami get more powerful.

zuuuuu: me stepping up was awesome i mean i've also i've always loved his character

Andrew Rogers: I think he like when the teachers talk about who's going to be the next like big three, I feel like Tokoyami is like sitting at number four, like, but what about me?

zuuuuu: here

Andrew Rogers: I could be up there too. Like he should be in the conversation if he is not in the conversation from these teachers of who has the biggest potential.

zuuuuu: Yeah. Definitely top 5.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, I mean, I'm not going to say this is an original idea by any means, because I have been listening to other anime podcasts, so I know I've heard this take once or twice. The power scaling and like the top 10 heroes thing is such a problem in the universe, because like a lot of the students are just more powerful than the top 10 heroes right now, and it's only experience, and even that's something.

zuuuuu: sure

Andrew Rogers: Like Kamui Woods, I feel like half the students are more powerful than him. And he's at like number eight, I think. I think Mount Lady's in the top 10. I feel like, I feel like Shoto has Mount Lady, no question.

zuuuuu: sure maybe yeah yeah i mean but that's why they do the re -rankings every year but they've been a little busy to really care it's like we just need heroes

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, like it's, yeah.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, I mean, everyone's favorite wash is a top 10 here.

zuuuuu: I wish I could remember the one that like retired and it was just like, oh God, like he's just done with this.

Andrew Rogers: we We never found out his quirk.

zuuuuu: Oh, was it? i think like We just knew he was a top 10.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, we that was our first introduction to that person as a top 10 was him retiring. I don't believe we ever found out his quirk.

zuuuuu: Interesting.

Andrew Rogers: Which is like, yeah, where is he right now? I feel like this should have been an all hands on deck kind of situation. You come out of retirement.

zuuuuu: Now he's in his vacation home island thing right now.

Andrew Rogers: and until we cut back to the Toga fight and he's just in a hut on the island where they sent Toga. and He's like, what's going on?

zuuuuu: It was just a DOA.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, no.

zuuuuu: Came out of retirement, just died as soon as I got out of the battlefield.

Andrew Rogers: Hey, if gang orc is still kicking, he's kicking.

zuuuuu: Airy's still very relevant right now.

Andrew Rogers: So, Eri, yeah, Eri is the one character one of my favorite characters of the show i've said a lot of times that i'm like where is erie what is going on i assumed erie was possibly our way out of the bakugo situation but the fact that like has not come up in conversation at all is still like what is going on where has she been she was the macguffin like four seasons ago of like she's gonna be the secret to saving everyone why her name has not been mentioned

zuuuuu: Yeah, we saw her, like, hug Deku at the end of, like, him coming back to the school. That was about it.

Andrew Rogers: We saw her hug Deku. I feel like she may have also been one of the control rooms at some point.

zuuuuu: She said bye to Deku, too, this season.

Andrew Rogers: Like, yeah. Because it was her, the kid with the two horns on his hat and dinosaur lady.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: I feel like we saw all of them reappeared.

zuuuuu: Yeah. Yeah, that's his main cheerleading squad.

Andrew Rogers: Boop, boop.

zuuuuu: But yeah, for it to be I was terrified thinking that they had found a way to stop the reversal.

zuuuuu: And that was what they were getting at.

Andrew Rogers: yes

zuuuuu: but It was just like once logic kicked in, it was like, sure, like why wouldn't he have just gone into battle like that?

Andrew Rogers: Yes.

zuuuuu: Maybe they just didn't have a time to test it. But and in the moment when I was like, oh, he just really wanted to fuck with their heads that bad that when he thought that they won, he's just like, I'm young again.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah. Yeah, you gotta you gotta have that as a secret we' ready to go.

zuuuuu: The way the scientist was like, oh, I just love your smile all for one. i'm like Like, yeah, he's dapper as all hell, but, ugh.

Andrew Rogers: Oh,

Andrew Rogers: You know, Eggman there is has always been a problem.

Andrew Rogers: But yeah, I think that's all I...

zuuuuu: He just lands and starts stealing quirks and traumatizing heroes. I'm just like, this is not gonna be a fun nine episodes.

Andrew Rogers: Nope.

zuuuuu: He's like, I already got my body.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, no.

zuuuuu: This is really like, Why not? Last stand. Let's cause as much chaos as they absolutely can. It's like, can he not though?

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, there's still so much of a question with the whole two body thing and the two mind thing, like I don't know where that's going.

zuuuuu: And then one mind's like fighting the other mind.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, there's.

zuuuuu: I think it's just a similar ability to one for all, where they can manifest like in other bodies and stuff like that.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, for sure, there's something.

zuuuuu: But they just, they don't want to take over as to where he's like, I'm not gonna die.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah. Yeah. We'll see. I don't i don't know. there's They're definitely playing on that mystery for a reason, and I don't and't think I need to speculate even on that one.

zuuuuu: yeah he's just testing the the Orochimaru approach of taking other people's bodies to stay young instead of having school because he's like what a few hundred years old if there's been seven generations of one for all

Andrew Rogers: Something like that. Yeah, seven generations of one for all. But they all die by the time they're like 40 or something, right?

zuuuuu: So 200 could be... 2 -300 years old?

Andrew Rogers: Something like that, maybe.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: But I mean, that it probably just has an immortality quirk or something like that rattling around. It would make sense. I really wanted to give you some flack for making the Orochimaru reference. I was going to be like, what?

Andrew Rogers: So you can't do this in terms that I would understand or anything like that?

zuuuuu: What's funny is, yesterday I was going through some old stuff and I don't know if it was like the Christmas gift or what, but I took a picture of it, but it was a note that said like, it was just like sentimental stuff.

zuuuuu: And at the very end, it said, even if we can't agree about Naruto, it's like, oh, buddy, this was like last week too.

Andrew Rogers: Yes. Oh, that's so fun. Well, you'll be happy to know in my hiatus, I have been, I've started reading a lot of manga and I'm four, five volumes into Naruto.

zuuuuu: nice

Andrew Rogers: I decided for that to be my approach, but then the library has not had the next volume in for like a month.

zuuuuu: Nice.

Andrew Rogers: So I'm slowly getting there because there is so much Naruto to read.

zuuuuu: Hmm.

zuuuuu: That's a good way to do it, you don't have to worry about recaps. and

Andrew Rogers: That's exactly it, I can just keep going. I've been um've been thoroughly enjoying manga as well as anime. But my hero, maybe we'll get there, but i don't I don't plan on doing it now, and all of the fans seem really upset at how it ended, so I'm just gonna continue with everything going on.

zuuuuu: yeah let's enjoy the beauty of animation in the meantime yeah as i said we're getting closer to the arrow marks let's hit that that last story that has just been nothing but trauma the great

Andrew Rogers: Oh yes, the beauty of all the chaos and that we're getting here, especially with Coffin in the Sky.

Andrew Rogers: yes Yes.

zuuuuu: Hilarious moment in the middle of all this. We've had two of them and that was a Bakugo and Mirako fighting against each other. It's like are we on the same team?

Andrew Rogers: If they weren't like 30 year age gap, I was like, this is, there's some tension going on here right now between the two of them.

zuuuuu: Caught they're the same people It's like he was talking to his mom all over again

Andrew Rogers: That was, that was a classic moment for sure.

Andrew Rogers: Forgot about that. I didn't forget about that His mom or Mirka I Mean yeah, they're they're doing what they can but yeah come on this guy has been

zuuuuu: Every time they cut to her, it's like, oh, she is so calm.

zuuuuu: His palm.

Andrew Rogers: wild just it felt like this was very similar to what you're talking about with oh we have this triumph with the Todoroki fight when they first got him the coffin in the sky i was like what's he gonna do we have all of these plans in place Aizawa and uh wow you knew that i was going for the guy who could copy quirks

zuuuuu: Monoma.

zuuuuu: I had a feeling that he would come up and I looked that one up earlier.

Andrew Rogers: Good. Yeah. So him and MoMA, like they had that ready to go. Also, we didn't talk about it during the chess board thing, but I'm going to forget about it if I don't talk.

zuuuuu: I know exactly where you're going.

Andrew Rogers: The chaotic laughing when he was doing the Kurogi thing, the first time he did it, I'm like, all right, you're getting your moment in the sun.

zuuuuu: yeah

zuuuuu: It's like I'm here.

Andrew Rogers: This is fine. But just like continuing for like 30 more seconds, just like, look at me, I can do this. It's just like, oh my goodness.

Andrew Rogers: That was

zuuuuu: I like kind of wish we didn't get the flashback to him being hyped up and it was just him insanity but I i mean I kind of like different like just a heartfelt moment. It just goes like first he has all the warp gates and then he has Izawa's power and the way it cut so it's like oh yeah and the only way that he can keep it going longer and it goes just like he's there with his eye missing and leg missing and he used to be cool Izawa.

Andrew Rogers: It was good for both. It was good for both.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: Yes don't call.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah. he is He's more cool than you could ever be.

zuuuuu: You're just a freak of nature.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, now the it went from we have everything under control to chaos so quickly. Mirko immediately lost all of her cybernetic arms like that first episode.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: and It was like, oh, you think you got this? Mirko's dead. And then she wasn't. But I was like, really? We're just going to do this back to back. I thought we were getting a star and stripe all over again, that they were just offing Mirko immediately to show Shaka Rocky's power.

zuuuuu: Yeah, I was definitely scared for her.

Andrew Rogers: I was, but then yeah, you you have this entire group. Best Genest has been doing his best every time that he says Bakugo's full name. My heart just pounds a little bit harder, like he cares.

Andrew Rogers: He cares so much about this boy. I love it so much. oh He's been great.

zuuuuu: Dude, I mean Bakugo having the new weapons and stuff to make his What is it, Hellblitzer? No.

Andrew Rogers: It was either Hellblitz or Howitzer, I think.

zuuuuu: To make... Howitzer. To make his like number one technique like even cooler was insane, the way he just like shredded through and actually landed a good hit on him.

zuuuuu: But then, to think that he got broken down and was feeling hopeless and then just unlocked this whole other ability that just made him...

Andrew Rogers: Oh, teleport?

zuuuuu: jude Dude, dude, dude, like that was Goku ultra instinct level like holy shit what is going on right now like his head just being down and just snapping in a different spot and just causing these insane explosions it's like oh yeah the power is supposed to be from his hands and now it's just the way they said that it like completely sealed up so the heat had to escape and now it's just like trying to go through every pore on its body that he was like oh my god

Andrew Rogers: Just teleport? Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: Mm -hmm. Yeah. No, it was crazy, amazing, breathtaking. I was like, okay, we got a shot again. We got a shot again. And then he died.

zuuuuu: shot through the heart is

Andrew Rogers: Oh, oh, come on. I was really looking at you like, oh, what do we even say here? I didn't know what to say.

zuuuuu: either that or i cry okay

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, no, I i was fully dumbstruck when it happened because like the entire emphasis that they put on it with the flashbacks and seeing everything through like if they were going to kill Bakugo that was how they would do it and that's what scares me i have faith that he can't be gone he's the fan favorite he's going to come back somehow but i don't know i'm not sure and it's so sad

zuuuuu: Can we talk about how depressing it is that Best Genis and Edshot have seen so much that they're their combat medic skills are that efficient? Where ones actually seem like sewing up his lungs and heart with no sense of being able to see it while Edshot is like resuscitating him straight from the organs and just like holy crap.

Andrew Rogers: I mean, Ed shot possibly giving up his life, I think he said for this, like, yeah,

zuuuuu: Yeah, he's like sacrificing himself because his body can't handle being that thin.

Andrew Rogers: yeah which Ed shot has been a top five, like, didn't see this character coming and mattering this much, but has been so amazing in the entirety of the tech.

zuuuuu: He has a cool entrances and that's about it.

Andrew Rogers: yeah but it's still been really really good but yeah them them having that skill and but just not missing a beat like best genus he had that moment where he touched him and realized his heart wasn't going but then jumped in just was ready to go like that's that's what heroes do but yeah no it was

zuuuuu: Literally.

zuuuuu: and Just the the shock and best genus eyes throughout the whole thing. Oh You guys see a little flashback of him and headshot is like students together I'm

Andrew Rogers: Mm -hmm. There's been so many student flashbacks because you have them and then you've had the big three having all their moments Flashing back to what it was like just being students hanging.

zuuuuu: so glad he has his powers back a Million Sun Eater and

zuuuuu: i'm so glad he has his powers back

Andrew Rogers: Oh LeMillion Yeah, those those three I know her name is Nejure but I don't know what her I Don't know what her hero name is, but her name is Nejure

zuuuuu: million suneater and always forget her name. I'm so scared for her right now too, like I'm convinced she's gonna die.

Andrew Rogers: But yeah, those three, i yeah, it's it's this weird, like, I love these characters. They have great powers. They haven't been able to do a lick of damage, and it's terrifying and sad.

zuuuuu: Okay, Sun Eaters canon thing was f freaking awesome though. just like eight None of it made sense because I don't know what combination of animals could produce that, but...

Andrew Rogers: Oh yeah. You can just become a railgun.

zuuuuu: Oh

Andrew Rogers: yeah no it was great and him being cloaked by the chameleon part like he was invisible and that's why because i was like how is uh shigaraki not noticing this he's like chameleon i see the invisibility like shimmer and you're like oh he's smart it's probably cold -blooded too so he can't get like heat vision on him but yeah let they're all so great and seeing them just having fun together and like coming up and like

zuuuuu: yeah, that was sick.

zuuuuu: yeah

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: What's your quirk? How are we doing this was just, it was so heartwarming and great again to see. And it's just heartwarming to heartbreak so fast.

zuuuuu: Yeah. I'm so scared for that.

Andrew Rogers: I'm scared for Nejure. I think my Milion might be the only one that like I'm not scared for. And that's just because he will most likely phase through everything.

zuuuuu: Oh, the mental episode that he had of like, I'm not even a threat to him, he doesn't acknowledge me. like did that the The way that he's been like, hoped in so much for now, but not give up person for so long, to be like, I don't know what to do except stick my ass in this dude's face.

Andrew Rogers: Mm -hmm Oh my god that in the middle of the fight was I was I Loved it Yeah, I loved it, but I hated it it was it was like no this I can't I can't laugh at this right now Yeah What No

zuuuuu: That was a page out of Naruto too, I was loving that. But his face being so scared for his life too. It's like two seconds, that's all we need, how do we get two seconds? Doing! Peaches, that's how.

Andrew Rogers: The peaches, that's what it was. I was like, what did he say? Oh, my God. It was absolute.

zuuuuu: Flashbacks tonight, I leading up to that.

Andrew Rogers: Absolute absurdity. But yeah, it's been it's been a whirlwind of a season. And the more I've talked about it, the more I've kind of I'm not going to say I've turned around.

Andrew Rogers: I want to stand by everything that I said at the beginning that I think it started off way too slow.

zuuuuu: There's been a lot of good.

Andrew Rogers: But talking about talking about these last like three, four episodes, like, oh, man.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: It took a while to get it going, but now that the engine started, it is it has been fantastic. dick

zuuuuu: yeah

Andrew Rogers: And who knows, it might just be superhero fatigue. I might just be finally hitting that cusp, but I'm glad to be glad to be back talking about this show as as one of the greats, because so many shows have pacing problems these days, as we've learned, and Demon Slayer, that yeah, we just we just have to enjoy what we get.

zuuuuu: Oh, yeah.

zuuuuu: yeah Oh, that's there's no slowing down with that one for here on out though but The moving train Yeah, Deku's entrance was awesome Shigaraki's final what I'm assuming is this final form looks really cool, too the way that

Andrew Rogers: Oh no, go from here on out, the the train is going and I i hope... wo po Yeah, I hope that my hero also is kind of go, go, go from here on out. It feels like this is it, but I don't. Oh yeah.

Andrew Rogers: I'm guessing he's going to have 17 final forms.

zuuuuu: what we've known from like his his original look to the motive of it to like how he how it actually like formed around him look i got tired of the op arms flinging around the place can't get through his defensive thing but the the look that we have actually looks really sick sure

Andrew Rogers: yeah we we always If anime does any one thing well, it's great looking villains. like they just They always give them the cool stuff, and the hero is always like the everyman underdog kind of look. It might not always be true, but a lot of the times that's a pretty true statement, and I feel like this is no exception.

zuuuuu: you

zuuuuu: All right, well, I think that's all we have for my hero. We mentioned that we're caught up on Demon Slayer.

zuuuuu: The end of Demon Slayer as a whole is going to be a trilogy that's going to be releasing in theaters, which is really exciting.

Andrew Rogers: and sad give me eight months i think six months is ambitious i think eight months is probably yeah but i think if it's more than two years total it's gonna be well i'm like we're getting attack on titan point

zuuuuu: Hopefully they'll be like six months apart and not like a year apart.

zuuuuu: Because you got have that you had to have the Crunchyroll release and the International release, so yeah, 8 months is fine.

zuuuuu: Don't attack on Titan, me. But this is exactly what Attack on Titan should have done.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, Attack on Titan should have done this, but I'm attributing it to, because I had a conversation with Jill about this actually, of what it feels like. And I feel like it's a problem for casual people. It's great for us, because we're like, okay, we can actually sit down and enjoy like the movie that they're going to give us. But if I think about the people who are like superhero fans, but not big ones, and the way Spider -Verse has treated things, that they basically have like,

Andrew Rogers: they don't care about the third movie because the second one took a while to come out and then it was a cliffhanger and now this is happening like i feel like you're gonna lose yeah but i feel like you're gonna lose some casual demon slayer fans in a similar fashion because every time that demon slayer has had a premiere i've gone with like five to ten people to the like the movie premieres and every time it

zuuuuu: That was also my problem with attack on Titan Deaters get packed too

Andrew Rogers: it's packed but every time it's me telling all of these people and they're like oh that's coming out sure I'm happy to go with you but like if you're not in the sphere of knowledge you're not knowing that this thing is going to happen like I text a couple friends mine back home was like oh did you see it yet they're like oh I thought it didn't come out to like April on crunchyroll I'm like no it's in the theater you can go now and then they went and saw it but they were just thinking oh it's gonna come out on crunchyroll whenever and like that's how a lot of people

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: treat these things. So I think it's going to be really good. I think it's probably going to be the best way to finish it out because it was more than one season could hold. So doing it in the movies will help. But I think it's, it's an interesting choice at this point, I have to, I have to say.

zuuuuu: Yeah, and I think the the problem with us as anime fans trying to be in the loop is to not cross paths with the manga fans, especially with this gap between the movies.

zuuuuu: It's like we don't want to get too involved in information because like I've already had a couple of things spoiled for me for demons later that I'm sure would have been really great to just see on screen. But yeah, it's a it's a tough line to walk.

Andrew Rogers: Yes.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, Demon Slayers, that that last season has made me and a lot of people feel a lot of ways, but I'm so excited for what's to come, and largely because that last episode was amazing.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: And they there's one thing that has lived rent -free in my head, and it has been the weird cliffhanger post -credits scene that they did.

zuuuuu: Just cinematic.

Andrew Rogers: for the season.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: That has me wild and out for like, that that yeah, that'll happen.

zuuuuu: but We'll talk about it soon. We'll talk about it soon. Cause BBK wants to talk about it, Saturday wants to talk about it, I just don't need to talk about it. I've watched that clip, I think every day for like three weeks, you know, it's just whenever it pops up, it's like, I can't not watch it.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah.

zuuuuu: we'll We'll talk about it.

Andrew Rogers: Of course.

zuuuuu: but

Andrew Rogers: Of course, have you been watching anything else? I mean, we've taken a seven month break. Have you watched anything else good that you're like, maybe we talk about this or you just want to like, let people know you watched and you thought was good.

Andrew Rogers: I have a couple if you want a moment to think.

zuuuuu: so what i mentioned last week uh...

Andrew Rogers: I have not started that yet.

zuuuuu: me and bvk are currently he finished i'm watching kaiju number eight uh...

Andrew Rogers: That's very high on my watch list.

zuuuuu: so i'm halfway done uh... my suggestion is just watch it in bulk so four it's actually been like a friday it's been a fun like friday night i want to watch a movie but i don't know why so i watch like four episodes kaiju number eight and it typically goes through an arc in four episodes

Andrew Rogers: Okay.

zuuuuu: so it's like it it's a good stopping point like all the action things happen that like mellows out uh... so like if you want to like binge for a couple hours like that's that's the way to do it uh...

zuuuuu: so once we finish that i want to record on it and then i want to talk about uh... i still after i'm done with kaijin and maria i'm gonna start watching solo leveling okay so we'll talk about that

Andrew Rogers: That was one of mine that I watched and is a banger. Yeah.

zuuuuu: Yeah, me and Scootz talked about X -Men 97 a little bit last week. I still need to watch Tales in the Empire.

Andrew Rogers: Oh, X -Men 97.

zuuuuu: We talked Bad Batch.

zuuuuu: We talked Inside Out.

zuuuuu: You and me need to talk Code White.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, we definitely need to talk code white.

zuuuuu: Yeah, that's all I can think of at the top of my head.

Andrew Rogers: But yeah. Yeah, I mean, I, like I said, I came kind of prepared and I'm staring at my Crunchyroll history here. and So I have the cheat sheet in front of me. Solo leveling was great.

Andrew Rogers: I was not super... like the poster didn't intrigue me the description I was like I don't know what this is watch the first two episodes they should be watched together if you are intrigued by what happens by the end of the second episode then you'll like whatever else is going on but it's one of those weird they released one than the other but it's definitely like a two -parter That was great. I talked about, I know this was way at the end of last year, but I want to bring it up. If you like fun mystery things, Apothecary Diaries was one of the best anime that came out like end of last year started this year.

Andrew Rogers: It's not super action heavy, but it was just such a good watch. I absolutely loved that. I watched Hell's Paradise recently. That was super fun. I don't know if we're necessarily going to podcast on it. I don't know if it's deep enough that I want to do that. But as far as just like a show goes, I really enjoyed everything that that had to offer. It's super like intriguing samurai in a mystical world based thing.

zuuuuu: this one's apothecary diary or something else?

Andrew Rogers: That's Hell's Paradise.

zuuuuu: health spirits, okay i'm like trying to like add things to the lyricism i've just been obsessed with the opening song i haven't actually watched it yet

Andrew Rogers: Hell's Paradise was, yeah, Hell's Paradise was super good. And have, uh, Mashall, the second half of the season came out. I know I talked about that when it came out. Oh geez. I hit my wake board.

Andrew Rogers: I know I talked about that when it came back last year. Bling, bum, bum, bling, bum, bum, bling.

zuuuuu: the main moment

Andrew Rogers: It's such a good opening song and then not anime, but deserves a call out because I finished it yesterday. Has been hotel. It is Amazon prime animation.

zuuuuu: Yeah, that's been on my list.

Andrew Rogers: I love it. It's not for everyone. I think Monica definitely she enjoyed it, but she didn't love it. I adored it.

Andrew Rogers: I almost, there's like a spoiler that I want to give, but I don't want to give because it's even surprised me.

zuuuuu: How about you don't? I don't.

Andrew Rogers: So I just, yeah, I won't. But it's, yeah, it's super fun. And it's just been, yeah, super fun. It's been living in my head. Very, very 18 plus for everyone out there listening.

Andrew Rogers: Just be forewarned of that. There's a the trigger warning list is a mile long. So just go in with that knowledge, but I think it was super poignant and super well done in a lot of those aspects.

Andrew Rogers: So that one deserves a call out because yeah I finished it literally yesterday.

zuuuuu: He has been hotel.

Andrew Rogers: But yeah, besides that, it's eight episodes and they're half hour long.

zuuuuu: How many episodes was that?

zuuuuu: Okay.

Andrew Rogers: So I think I got through it in like two, three days. It was not, it was not super, super long.

zuuuuu: Yeah. I gotta finish Cape Crusader with Scoots first, and then I'll move on to the next series.

Andrew Rogers: Yes, I, I just got that. Oh, the other one that I need to call out. I'm so mad that I can't watch it. Actually, that's the reason that I watched has been hotel. I lost access to my Netflix. So I watched the first five or six episodes of it.

zuuuuu: That's what I figured we were going towards.

Andrew Rogers: And it was amazing. And I wanted more and then I don't end up like so I got to figure this out. dungeon meshy or delicious and dungeon.

zuuuuu: That's what Scoots was telling me to watch.

Andrew Rogers: oh my god might be my favorite anime of the year and i've only watched six episodes i have had so much fun with it i think it says two seasons it's i think it's just two parts of one season so it's like 24 episodes but yeah i i can't say it's the best because i obviously have only watched the first six episodes but i

zuuuuu: Oh, it's two seasons. Probably two parts.

zuuuuu: No, Scootz has had a really high rating on that as well, so I i generally believe you when you say that.

Andrew Rogers: No, it's it is a true sleeper. I think like I think because it's Netflix and Netflix does the whole we drop all episodes at once thing. Some people watched it, but not nearly as many would.

Andrew Rogers: It's also animated by I think Trigger. So it's not like it's not one of those Netflix made in anime. They contracted out.

zuuuuu: Like they're doing with Terminator at the end of October.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, yeah, it's one of those. No, they contracted out to Studio Trigger. Hey, here's the anime you guys made. We'll put it on Netflix. I think i think if it was on Crunchyroll, there'd be more people talking about it, but everyone that I have talked to about it has thoroughly enjoyed it.

Andrew Rogers: So I almost forgot about it because I was staring at my Crunchyroll recommendations.

zuuuuu: nice Nice.

Andrew Rogers: I was like, I cannot forget this.

zuuuuu: Yeah, I think I added everything you said. and

Andrew Rogers: But there you go. there's There's all the recommendations going on coming back. We don't know what we're gonna record on. We don't know what our schedule's gonna look like. We're just, we're back for fun.

zuuuuu: Yeah, at the end of the day, like we do this because it's fun, we want to keep it fun. As much as we like to watch things every week, sometimes it just makes sense to record on it every week.

zuuuuu: So the goal going forward is to have more season reviews, if we could do an episode like every two weeks, great, but we kind of just do it when we can make it happen. like I know the fans love it when we have stuff to talk about right away, but still like right into us, because we are watching, we just can't

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, I don't know if you guys,

zuuuuu: record right away. So in the subject to say like the episode that you're talking about so if we've seen it we can share with you guys enjoy with you guys write in when you can DM us when you can we'll definitely talk about it we'll bring it in on the episode once we have it up.

zuuuuu: Yeah like I've missed talking to you I've missed hearing from the people it's

Andrew Rogers: i I definitely have, and that's what I was accidentally interrupting you with. I don't know if you guys talked about it last week. We did have a few of you reach out while we took our little hiatus there and just like check in, make sure we were good. Thank you all so much. It means a lot to know that you guys care. We just kind of burned ourselves out, I think, by trying to watch everything as quick as possible, podcast down it as soon as possible, get an episode out. It was too much.

Andrew Rogers: And all three of us started big life changes at the start of the year. And so now we're just kind of back and finally have things to like truly talk about, because I think if we had to suffer through one episode a week on Demon Slayer, it would have been torture.

Andrew Rogers: I'm happy to do a season recap, but I don't think I could have talked about paper planes for half an hour.

zuuuuu: No, that's very fair.

Andrew Rogers: Like.

zuuuuu: This has been a great year for animated content too, so it's like, we gotta talk about it in some capacity.

Andrew Rogers: It's been an interesting year. It's very spread out. Like there's been good, yeah, no, it's fine.

zuuuuu: It's fine.

Andrew Rogers: it's There's been good things, but it's not like, I think we hammered so many episodes in 2023 because one show would end and then something else would start that we're like, we need to talk about this.

zuuuuu: Immediately, yeah.

Andrew Rogers: It's so good. Cause yeah, we went from spy family to my hero was the war. Demon Slayer was the hot year training. And then we had JJK came out last year. Like so many things were just back to back.

zuuuuu: so So that's actually my thing with Kaiju Number 8 and Soul Leveling is that they were high on my radar, but because I was overwhelmed with content, those were ones where it's like I want to see this, but I'm going to wait for all of it to come out in English.

Andrew Rogers: Yep.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, I think that's valid.

zuuuuu: because I need to just sit down and enjoy without having to read. like It's already hard hard enough to like try to keep my eyes open when I'm sitting down to watch something.

Andrew Rogers: Mm -hmm.

zuuuuu: there's a i It doesn't have that hype level that I can justify waiting every week and reading subtitles for it, I'm sorry.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, that's exactly it like taking this break reminded me what it's like to be a fan and not a content creator I think that was the biggest change of pace like oh I missed watching Demon Slayer on Sunday let me just turn it on on Monday night, and it's not a problem, whereas, I think it was.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

zuuuuu: Mm

Andrew Rogers: last year my hero was coming out on thursday and we were podcasting on thursday so i would like watch it during my lunch at work and then we would podcast on it at night like that was that was too much but we're here

zuuuuu: hmm.

Andrew Rogers: And it's not to be a complainer again. We love all the support you guys have given us and we love hearing from you. And I'm, I'm truly happy to be back. I was like, I got the text from zoo yesterday and I was like, or this was it this morning?

zuuuuu: This morning.

Andrew Rogers: Oh my gosh, it was this morning.

zuuuuu: It was this is morning. I think I caught you right before you went into work.

Andrew Rogers: I was standing in the bathroom and I was like, Oh my gosh, zoo just text me. Uh, that's, it's too funny, but yeah.

zuuuuu: Yeah. Cause once you stopped responding, I was like, okay, it's after nine o 'clock his time now. So I think I genuinely got him like right before you started working.

Andrew Rogers: Yeah, like yeah you texted me and then I started answering emails and then I responded to you like an hour later like yeah, let's do it.

zuuuuu: Yeah.

Andrew Rogers: But yeah, it's

zuuuuu: Cool man, good to be back, good to have you back, good to have our listeners back. Any suggestions, any feedback, anything you guys are watching or excited to hear us talk about, please let us know. Head us up on, I think Instagram and email really are the best options, it's the ones we check more often, and then if you're in this random panda chat on Facebook, then you can at us on there. oh That's all the announcements I have, that's all the housekeeping I have, anything else for you?

Andrew Rogers: Now I'm just chillin'.

zuuuuu: All right, man. So everyone, thanks for thanks for sticking with us. Be sure to tune in next time and as always stay well.

Andrew Rogers: And in case I forget, muscle muscle.
